Hut-Based Back-Country Skiing in the South Chilcotin Mountains

Are you looking for a self-guided hut-based back-country skiing experience that allows you to disconnect from city life and reconnect to nature?

With our hut-based back-country skiing experience, take your skiing skills to the next level. Ski into our mountain hut and use this as your base to explore the surrounding area. The cabin is located at tree line (6500 ft) and provides you with open meadows and side hills to ski on right out of the cabin.

With extensive rolling and unmarked slopes, deep powder snow and panoramic views; it’s the perfect place to enjoy skiing at its best. A snow-covered playground full of nature connection opportunities, confidence-building challenges and endless opportunities for skiing exploration.

You will need back-country skiing and wilderness experience for this trip, as well as a higher level of fitness.

Are looking for a sustainable alternative to access the back-country of the Chilcotin Ark?

You will ski into our hut under your own power contributing to real-world conservation. Heli-skiing and helicopter shuttles not only ruin a true nature connection, they also produce loud noise, high emission of carbon dioxide and displace wildlife which has drastic impacts on wildlife population numbers. Mountain goats, of which BC holds more than 50% of the world’s population, suffer especially from helicopter disturbance as it results in their displacement or even death.

By staying at one of our fully-stocked satellite research huts, you only need to bring your personal and skiing equipment, sleeping bag and fresh food. Allowing you to explore the mountains sustainably under your own power and to enjoy a true nature connection.

Hut-Based Back-Country Skiing Cabin Details

Brett Camp is a rustic mountain log cabin with 4 separate rooms upstairs and a big room, including kitchen, downstairs. The cabin can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people. Your cooking facilities are a propane stove and huge wood stove which also provides the heat for the cabin. You’ll collect the water from under the ice of the mountain creek behind the cabin and there is an outhouse.

Important Information

Please note that this is an accommodation-only booking. The skiing will be self-guided, meaning you need to provide your own skiing equipment and you are responsible for your own emergency procedures. We recommend you familiarize yourself with a map and bring your own satellite communication device (Sat-phone, InReach, Spot, ect.). You can contact us with your communication device via email or phone.

Transport

Depending where you are coming from, you can drive yourself directly to the Trail Head where you will start hiking up. If you are coming from further away, you can stay a night at our Ranch facilities(additional costs). You can drive yourself from there or book our trail head drop off.

Looking for something a little less rugged?

With our ranch-based back-country skiing experience, many trails start right from our ranch. The range of trails allow you to build up the difficulty of your skiing experience. Start with simple trails close to the ranch, then as you increase your confidence and skill with skiing in the area, take on gradually more difficult trails. You can also include ice-fishing in your winter adventure. Stay in our comfortable log cabins at our ranch.
