Conservation Opportunities in Canada's Wilderness
Conservation Opportunities in Canada’s Wilderness
As the year comes to a close, many of us pause to reflect on our lives, our relationships, and the impact we have on the world around us. Doing this reminds us how we are all connected and how each of us contributes to something greater than ourselves.
The meaning of life – and of this season – invites us to look beyond ourselves and, most importantly, to hold ourselves, individually and collectively, responsible for a greater good.
At Wilderness Trails, our Six Principle Philosophy—nature connection, nature conservation, self-sufficiency, personal development, empowerment, and conscious awareness—guides everything we do. In this newsletter, we want to share how Nature Conservation will be part of your experience with us:
All of our wilderness experiences are rooted in the conservation and stewardship of the Chilcotin Ark. As we benefit from this unique wilderness, it becomes our shared responsibility to care for it. By joining us, you actively participate in conservation on your trip and, in return, gain access to pure wilderness and wildlife that few people ever experience.
Conservation Horse Pack Trip –
Mountain Goat Kid Count
Join us for our Mountain Goat Kid Count and turn your wilderness adventure into real-world impact and conservation opportunities. This annual trip takes you by horseback into the high alpine, where you will observe, identify, and record goats in their habitat while contributing data that informs population and land management decisions. It is a unique opportunity to ride your horse across the mountain tops, deepen your nature connection, and directly support the long-term conservation of an iconic species. Learn more.
Family Conservation Ranch Stay
Share time together as a family while making a real difference for wildlife with conservation opportunities in the Chilcotin Ark. On our ranch-based wildlife tracking and conservation family trip, you ride or hike together, learn to spot and identify animals like mountain goats, bears, moose, and deer, and record every sighting to support long-term wildlife and habitat management. Away from screens and everyday routines, you connect more deeply with each other, communicate in new ways, and grow together as a family, knowing that you directly contributed to conservation in this unique wilderness.
Contact us to discuss your family’s interest and we will create a wilderness experience that matches your goals.
Conservation Volunteer Program
with the Chilcotin Ark Institute
Spend six weeks or more living at our remote research ranch in the Chilcotin Ark and turn your passion for nature into practical skills, experience, and impact with conservation opportunities. As a conservation volunteer, you do not just “help out” – you receive wilderness and horseback training, gain field research skills, and build real wilderness experience. You join a committed community, sharing daily chores and reflections. With every pack trip, survey, and project you take on, you develop leadership, resilience, responsibility, and a deeper connection to nature and yourself. Learn more here.

Read our Philosophy – Nature Conservation Book
The book shares real stories that show what conservation looks like in action, both on the ground and at the high-level. Read about wildlife counts in remote mountain basins, collecting data such as grizzly bear hair for DNA analysis, and working with stakeholders on land management plans and government referrals that directly benefit wildlife and habitat.

New Christmas Music Album
As winter settles in, we’ve captured this feeling in our new Christmas music album, Riding Home For Christmas, available on Spotify and many other streaming services. This festive album is filled with Christmas music to get you in the holiday spirit and shares how we experience winter in the Chilcotin Ark – connecting with nature, embracing the quiet of the season, and celebrating all we’re thankful for.
Partnership for Conservation
Together with the Chilcotin Ark Institute, we contribute to conservation and stewardship efforts in the Chilcotin Ark. All of our guests and students make their contribution to the conservation of the wilderness they are immersed in. That’s why they get involved in hands-on conservation projects and 5% of every trip and training program goes towards stewardship in the Chilcotin Ark.
