Reconnect with Yourself in Remote Wilderness
At Wilderness Trails, you’ll live by our Six Principle Philosophy, including nature connection, nature conservation, self-sufficiency, personal development, empowerment, and conscious awareness. Today, we’re excited to share how Nature Connection will be part of your experience with us.
Nature Connection
The Chilcotin Ark offers unique opportunities to explore untouched landscapes in the remote wilderness. You’ll find yourself far away from other people without cell phone service, Wi-Fi, TV, and traffic, providing the perfect setting to disconnect from city life and reconnect with nature and yourself.
Contact with nature, no matter the intensity, increases our overall well-being. Depending on which wilderness experience you choose, you can connect to nature to whatever extent you feel comfortable and enjoy its restorative benefits.
1. Accommodation Rental
Six hours from Vancouver, four hours from Kamloops and Whistler and two hours from Lillooet, our accommodation in the South Chilcotin Mountains has all your needs covered.
Our various accommodation options allow you to experience the wilderness at your own comfort level. Build a campfire, drink pure mountain water, hike, bike or ride through the mountains, and watch wildlife grazing in the field outside your window. Join us for a guided day ride or hike, explore the area on your own or fish for trout in nearby ponds and lakes.
Choose one of our ranch-based log cabins, or experience a deeper connection by renting one of our back-country log cabins, which immerse you in the remote wilderness.
Looking to live and work in nature? Our mountain cabins provide the perfect opportunity to do so with the wilderness just one step out the door. Being in a remote place allows you to create your work-life balance in connection with nature and all its benefits. We offer weekly and monthly rentals. Contact us for more details.
2. Ranch Based Wildlife Tracking Conservation Trip
For those new to wilderness experiences, you can join us for a guided ranch-based wildlife tracking and conservation trip where you will explore the wilderness during the day on a ride or hike and return to the comforts of our lodge in the evening.
Learn to track and identify wildlife, getting to know their habitats and behaviours – including grizzly bear, black bear, wolf, mountain goat, California bighorn sheep, cougar, moose, and mule deer. Join real conservation projects that look after the local ecosystem, such as collecting grizzly hair from rub trees for DNA analysis and wildlife population counts.
Experience a 4-7 day trip with all activities, meals and accommodation included. Complete your adventure on horseback, by truck, or hiking.
3. Self-Guided Hut-to-Hut Backcountry Circuit
If you’re ready for a more immersive experience, our hut-to-hut self-guided mountain biking and hiking circuit leads you through the South Chilcotin Mountains Park.
Explore the Chilcotin Ark area under your own power while staying in our rustic, fully stocked satellite research huts. You will travel almost 100km over 7 days, covering 10-25 km per day, taking you through alpine meadows and valley forests up to the golden mountain peaks as you explore the Relay, Big Creek, Upper Tyaughton, Spruce Lake and Eldorado areas.
While you enjoy nature, you will also have the opportunity to look after it. We provide you with the tools and knowledge to contribute towards conservation on your journey.
Want to deepen your connection with nature even before your visit?
Learn more about nature prior to your experience in our online nature connection course. All of our programs and courses with our training partner, the Wilderness Training Academy, are self-directed, providing you with information and self-reflection prompts for you to put into action.
You will:

- Receive a daily nature journal and meditation
- Find a deeper connection to nature and yourself
Become a Steward of the Chilcotin Ark!
Connecting with nature is about becoming a steward of the environment we benefit from. By contributing towards conservation, we ensure that we can continue to receive the benefits for generations to come. All our guests make a 5% stewardship contribution from their trip value towards conservation projects in the Chilcotin Ark.
You can also make an additional contribution today by donating to our partner, the Chilcotin Ark Institute.
