With all of our wilderness trail rides you learn how to fit your saddle to you and the horse, and get horseback riding lessons in the Western riding style. Ride in the gymkhana, weaving around barrels and stepping over logs. You will get to know your horse and how to ride on the trail and your horse gets to know you. A wilderness horseback riding lesson orientation helps you stay safe on the trail, including what to do when you see wildlife and how to ride safely over uneven or slippery terrain.
Our calm, experienced horses will guide you through the mountains, making our wilderness trail rides perfect for even the most novice rider. Ride to a lookout, through ancient Douglas fir forests, up to the alpine or beside a rushing river, depending on the length of your ride. Look for wildlife such as black bears and grizzly bears and learn about different types of edible plants. Sample some berries along the way such as Saskatoon berries, soopallalie berries or thimble berries. On our full day ride, stop for lunch in the alpine meadows, scouting for mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears, mule deer and wolves.
Back at the ranch, unsaddle your horse and reward them with a bowl of oats while reflecting on the nature connection and your wilderness trail riding experience.
For young kids, our one hour horseback riding lessons in our horse corral are the perfect introduction to horseback riding, or building on existing experience. These rides are tailored to your child’s experience and comfort level with horses.
